The OKI Street Sixes Youth
League is 6 a-side football league established by Gosport
Police in 1999 as a crime diversion scheme targeting children
living on the Rowner Estate. Today the league, under the guise
of the OKI Street Sixes Youth League, involves over 500 young
people in Gosport and Fareham districts of Hampshire.
In June 2006, at the inaugural OKI Street Sixes Youth Festival,
OKI Printing Solutions announced a partnership with Hampshire
Constabulary to support the existing leagues and work together
towards developing the initiative across the region. This
was given further support in October 2006 when Portsmouth
FC player, Sol Campbell was announced as the league's ambassador.
The league offers the opportunity for boys and girls from
the ages of 7-17 to play football, free of charge, on a weekly
basis throughout the season. It's system of allocating red
and yellow cards for anti-social behaviour off the pitch as
well as the sporting opportunity it provides on the pitch,
has led to a reduction in crime in the area, showing a benefit
to the greater community.
